abstract |
Prodn. on unsatd. esters (esp. vinyl acetate) by liquid phase reaction of an alkene, and a carboxylic acid in the pres. of molecular oxygen and a catalyst comprising copper and palladium salts together with 0.001-0.1 mol/1. liquid phase of a vanadium cpd., esp. vanadium anhydride. Reaction is carried out in the known way at 50-200 deg.C (esp. 80-160 deg.C)/20-70 atm. e.g. as described in IT.743677 and IT appl. 27008. It has now been found that the pres. of the vanadium cpd. increases catalyst eficiency and reduces the formation of oxalic acid which deposits on the reactor and fouls the catalyst, thus giving higher yields at lower catalyst concns. |
