titleOfInvention | Process for the pretreatment of electroless and, if necessary, electrolytic plastics to be metallized |
abstract | 1291593 Coating with metals SCHERING A G 11 Nov 1969 [29 Nov 1968] 55106/69 Heading C7F A plastics surface, e.g. A.B.S. or polypropylene, is coated electrolytically by (a) pickling the surface in e. g. sulphuric, chromic, and phosphoric acid mixture, (b) contacting with an activating solution of pH less than 1 containing a noble metal salt and free from stannons ions (c) contacting with a reducing solution of e. g. sodium borohydride or hydrazine hydrate (d) electro-less plating with e.g. Cu from a copper sulphate, formaldehyde, sodium hydroxide bath or Ni from a nickel sulphate, sodium citrate, sodium hypophosphite bath, and (e) electro-plating with Cu, Ni, and Cr. The activating solution may contain e.g. sulphuric, phosphoric or perchloric acids, gold chloride or the sulphate, perchlorate or chloride of palladium, and an oxidizing agent e. g. hydrogen peroxide, ammonium persulphate, the iodate, bromate or chlorate of potassium, sodium nitrate, cerium sulphate, oxygen or nitric oxide. |
