A phenol (I) contg. 2-5 Me groups is reacted in the vapour phase with a second phenol (II) contg. 0-1 Me groups at 350-500 degrees pref. 275-425 degrees in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of 75-100% (pref. at least 80%) alumina and 0-25% silicic acid, by which treatment Me groups are transferred from I to II. |
