titleOfInvention Process for the production of microspheres from metal oxide
abstract Uniform dimension and surface configuration plutonium oxide microspheres. Are prepared by (1) dissolving a Pu compound in acid (pref. HNO3); (2) adsorbing the Pu ions into a cationic ion-exchange resin; (3) separating the exchanged resin by filtration, and (4) burning it in the presence of air in a furnace at 900-1200 degrees C (pref. 900-1100 degrees C). The same procedure can be used for the preparation of microspheres of other metallic oxides. The microspheres have uniform crushing resistance and are particularly useful as nuclear fuel.
