abstract The application discloses a process for obtaining polylactic acid (PLA) from cheese whey comprising, inter alia, the steps of deproteinizing and inoculating, fermenting, separating, polymerizing and drying. The claimed method involves the use of microorganisms such as Bacillus Delbrueckii and Streptococcus Thermophilus. In addition, the step of separating includes an adsorption process in a tower packed in activated cationic zeolite, resulting in an exchange of H + for Ca + , and the solvent N-pentane is used in the step of separating to extract lactic acid whereby 90% of the lactic acid obtained by fermentation is recovered.
