abstract | A biological material meter (80) comprising: - An infrared light source (32) which is designed to emit infrared light wholly or partially in a wavelength range with absorption wavelengths of the biological material; - an ATR prism (20) having a first end face (20c), a second end face (20a), a third end face (20b) and a fourth end face (20d), which is designed to on the first end face (20c) infrared light received radiated from the infrared light source (32), transmit the received infrared light while repeating total reflection from the second end face (20a) and the third end face (20b), and transmit the transmitted infrared light from the fourth end face (20d) to emit; - an infrared photodetector (30) adapted to detect the infrared light emitted from the ATR prism (20) while separating wavelengths; and - a contact sensor (37a, 37b, 37c) fixed to the ATR prism (20) and adapted to detect a contact condition between the ATR prism (20) and a living body surface (49), the contact sensor being so arranged that it is not in direct contact with the living body surface, the contact sensor comprising a plurality of strain gauges (37a, 37b, 37c) attached to the ATR prism (20), each of the plurality of strain gauges (37a, 37b, 37c) is a thin metal layer with a resistance that changes with expansion and contraction strains caused by an applied force. |
