titleOfInvention | Orthogonal acceleration coaxial cylinder mass analyzer |
abstract | Mass analyzer, which includes: an annular ion guide having a longitudinal axis and a first annular ion guide portion and a second annular ion guide portion, the annular ion guide comprising: (i) an inner cylindrical electrode assembly that is axially segmented and includes a number of first electrodes, and (ii) an outer cylindrical Electrode arrangement which is axially segmented and comprises a number of second electrodes, a first device configured and configured to introduce ions into the first annular ion guide section such that the ions form stable circular orbits about the longitudinal axis within the first annular ion guide section, a second device arranged and configured to orthogonally accelerate ions from the stable circular orbits in the first annular ion guide section into the second annular ion guide section, a device arranged and adapted to maintain one or more DC potentials along a portion of the second annular ion guide section to cause ions in the second annular ion guide section to oscillate axially, and an inductive ion detector arranged and configured to detect a series of pulses of ions within the second annular ion guide section, each pulse being associated with a passage of ions through the second annular ion guide section. |
