NEMATIC LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING THE SAME |
abstract |
It is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid crystal composition having the following properties without decreasing the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and the nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase (T ni ) transition temperature: sufficiently low solid phase nematic phase transition temperature (T cn ) , sufficiently low viscosity (η), sufficiently low rotational viscosity (γ1), a large elastic constant (K 33 ) and a negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε) having a high absolute value. Another problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device, for example of VA type, which uses such a liquid crystal composition and has a high response speed and excellent display quality with eliminated or reduced defect display. There is provided a liquid crystal composition containing as a first component a compound of the formula (N2), as a second component at least one compound of the general formula (N3) and as a third component at least one compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε) Absolute value of greater than three. There is also provided a liquid crystal display device using such a liquid crystal composition. |
