abstract | A process for the continuous production of a biodegradable aliphatic and aromatic polyester copolymer, the process comprising: conducting a first esterification reaction of an aliphatic dihydroxy compound with an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid at a temperature of 185°C or less; continuously conducting a second esterification reaction from a reaction product from the first esterification reaction; continuously subjecting a reaction product from the second esterification reaction to a first polycondensation reaction to obtain a prepolymer having a weight-average molecular weight of from about 6,900 to about 14,000; continuously subjecting the prepolymer to a second polycondensation reaction to obtain a second polycondensation reaction product; and continuously subjecting the second polycondensation reaction product to a third polycondensation reaction to produce the biodegradable aliphatic/aromatic polyester copolymer, wherein carrying out the first esterification reaction or carrying out the second esterification reaction continuously comprises adding an aromatic carboxylic acid, wherein the second polycondensation reaction is conducted at a temperature of from about 220°C to about 250°C, a degree of vacuum of from about 2 torr to about 7 torr and a residence time of the reaction mixture of from about 1.5 hours to 3 hours, and wherein the third polycondensation reaction is carried out at a temperature of from about 220°C to about 250°C, a degree of vacuum of from about 0.5 torr to about 2 torr and a residence time of the reaction mixture of from about 1 hour to 3 hours. |
