Disclosed are a chemical reactor (CR), related apparatus, and methods of operating the same. The chemical reactor (CR) is designed to allow N pair-wise fluid contacts between k chemical fluids, where k ≥ 2 and N ≥ 4, the reactor comprising: a reaction layer (RP) extending substantially in a two-dimensional plane is spanned by two, preferably vertical, directions (x, y); and N chemical cells (CC), each comprising two circuit sections (CP1, CP2, CP) adapted to allow, respectively, a circulation of two of the k chemical fluids, the two circuit sections overlapping, whereby a pairwise fluid contact for the two of the k chemical fluids is made possible; a fluid distribution circuit (M1, M2) comprising k groups of inlet ports (IA, IB) which alternate along lines parallel to one (y) of the two directions (x, y) one after the other, for respectively delivering k chemical fluids to the reaction layer ; and k groups of exhaust ports (OA ', OB') alternating along lines parallel to the intake ports for receiving respective k chemical fluids from the reaction layer, the exhaust ports along the one (y) of the two directions with respect to the inlet ports are displaced, and wherein each circuit section connects via respective ends thereof an inlet port to an outlet port. |
