| abstract | Mechanisms are provided for recognizing transparent units for intercepting data transmissions in networks (430, 530) in a network topology (305). The mechanisms are used to collect network configuration data from a large number of units in the network topology (305, 610) and the collected network configuration data are analyzed using one or more heuristic analysis methods in order to identify patterns in the collected network configuration data that indicate the existence of a transparent unit for interception of data transmissions in networks (430, 530, 630). By means of the mechanisms, a confidence value is calculated (640) based on the results of the analysis of the collected network configuration data. Furthermore, in response to the calculated confidence value reaching or exceeding at least one threshold value, the mechanism sends (680) a notification of a recognized existence of a transparent unit for intercepting data transmissions in networks to a data processing unit. |
