A monomer of formula (III): wherein X is a polymerizable group, Ar, Ar 1 and Ar 2 each independently represent an optionally substituted aryl or heteroaryl group; R 1 represents H or a substituent; and Z represents a direct bond or a divalent linking atom or group, Ar 1 and Ar 2 linking via a single bond or a divalent linking group selected from CR 1 R 2 , SiR 1 R 2 , PR 1 , NR 1 , O and S wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from hydrogen; optionally substituted alkyl, wherein one or more non-adjacent C atoms may be replaced by O, S, N, C = O and -COO-; Alkoxy, aryl, arylalkyl, heteroaryl and heteroarylalkyl.
