titleOfInvention Liquid crystal compounds of butylenes
abstract The present invention relates to a liquid crystal compound useful as a liquid crystal display material having a negative dielectric constant and mixed liquid crystal material using such a compound. The novel liquid crystal compound in a nematic phase has a negative dielectric constant and has a structure represented by the following general formula (1); wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or a linear alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms or a linear alkenyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms or, alternatively, R 1 represents an alkoxy or an alkenyloxy obtained by substituting one or two non-adjacent CH 1 in the above linear alkyl or linear alkenyl is formed with an oxygen atom, wherein 0 to 4 hydrogen atoms of the R1 group may be substituted with fluorine; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a linear alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or, alternatively, R 2 represents a linear fluoroalkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, in which group 0 to 4 hydrogens may be substituted with fluorine atoms; A represents a benzene ring or 1,4-cyclohexane ring, wherein when A is the benzene ring, then 0 to 4 hydrogen atoms on the benzene ring may be substituted with fluorine; n = 1 to 2 and m = 0 to 2.
