Process for producing an absorbent structure comprising the steps of: Providing a first superabsorbent polymer precursor mixture with a monomer which forms a superabsorbent, a crosslinking agent and a reducing agent; Providing a second superabsorbent polymer precursor mixture with a monomer which forms a superabsorbent, a crosslinking agent and an oxidizing agent; Providing a preformed substrate; Adding the first and / or second superabsorbent polymer precursor mixture to the substrate at a plurality of spaced positions; Adding the other first or second superabsorbent polymer precursor mixture to the substrate; and Initiating a chemical reaction of the first and second superabsorbent polymer precursor compositions at the plurality of spaced positions to form a plurality of discrete, spaced superabsorbent polymer microspheres that adhere to the substrate. |
