Apparatus and method for delivering long wavelength laser energy to a tissue site |
abstract |
A laser energy delivery device suitable for delivering a relatively long wavelength laser energy to a biological tissue in an aqueous medium, comprising: (a) an extended hollow sleeve having an open aperture at the distal end portion thereof and a closed proximal end, the sleeve defining a lumen and a gas inlet port spaced from the proximal end of the sleeve and in open communication with the lumen; and (b) a laser power line having a proximal end adapted for connection to a laser energy source adapted to generate light having a wavelength of at least about 1300 nanometers and a distal end adapted to supply the energy source with laser energy to a tissue site; wherein the laser power line is disposed in the lumen of the sleeve and passes through the closed proximal end of the sleeve, the distal end of the laser energy line is located at the open distal end of the sleeve, and the gas inlet port is for connection to a gas supply source for simultaneous infusion. |
