titleOfInvention Excipient for therapeutic agents against parasites of fish
abstract Infections with unicellular or multicellular parasites as well as fungi, bacteria and viruses can lead to serious illnesses and high losses in freshwater and marine fish. The present invention relates to an agent for the production of active substance complexes with which edible and ornamental fish can easily be treated by infection with pathogens. The agent according to the invention is based on the use of polyethylene glycol or derivatives of polyethylene glycol or a substance containing polyethylene glycol in order to make water-insoluble or only slightly water-soluble active ingredients, e.g. B. Praziquantel, in water for the treatment of diseased fish in solution. It has been found that polyethylene glycol (derivatives) are very compatible with fish. Even concentrations that are many times higher than those required for the application of active ingredients such as praziquantel do not lead to health problems for the fish. Compounds of polyethylene glycol with hydrophobic drugs are stable in fresh and sea water and can distribute the drugs quickly and homogeneously in the water and thus initiate the correct effectiveness. An active ingredient complex of polyethylene glycol with praziquantel is e.g. B. excellently suited to treat fish suffering from plathelminths.
