abstract | Powder mixture consisting of zinc-titanium mixed oxide particles, titanium dioxide particles and zinc oxide particles, the zinc-titanium mixed oxide particles having a composition according to the formula (ZnO) 1-x (TiO 2 ) x with 0.01 <x <0.99 and from can be obtained by a thermal process, and the powder mixture has a remission which is lower in the UV range from 320 to 400 nm than that of titanium dioxide and which is lower in the UV range than 320 nm than that of zinc oxide. The powder mixture can be produced by feeding an aerosol of a zinc compound into a flame, such as is used for the production of pyrogenic metal oxides by means of flame hydrolysis, homogeneously mixing this aerosol with the gas mixture of flame hydrolysis, allowing the aerosol-gas mixture to react in a flame, the solid reaction products are separated from the gas stream and then thermally treated. The powder mixture can also be prepared by dispersing titanium dioxide powder in the presence of a solution of a zinc compound, the ratio of titanium dioxide and zinc salt corresponding to the later desired ratio of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the end product, then the solvent is removed by evaporation and the residue is thermally treated. The powder mixture can be used in sunscreens. |
