titleOfInvention Method and device for determining the polarization mode dispersion of an optical element
abstract To determine the polarization mode dispersion of an optical element, an interferometer with two arms is used, between which there is a path length difference and which combine in a beam coupler. A photon pair source generates those photons which interfere with each other in fourth order interference in the radiation coupler and which trigger either coincidence or anti-coincidence of two detectors. A curve is determined which, at least approximately, indicates the number of coincidences or the probability of coincidence as a function of the path length difference. The amount of polarization mode dispersion of the optical element is determined from the course of the curve.
