abstract A fuel cell is provided which is reduced both in size and in weight, while a sealed state of the respective connection paths is ensured by respective sealing elements between separators and an electrode arrangement. In this fuel cell, connection openings (18) for reaction gases and cooling medium are provided in each separator (4, 5), which are provided on the outside of gas sealing elements (6, 7), and connecting paths (25) are provided which surround the gas sealing elements (6 , 7) in the thickness direction of the separators (4, 5) and connect the reaction gas connection openings (18) with gas connection paths (8, 9). A cooling surface seal member (27) that seals the cooling medium communication path from the reaction gas communication holes (18) is arranged at a position that is shifted from the communication paths (25) to the communication holes (18). A convex section (30) is provided between the reaction gas connection path (9) and the connection openings (18) of a separator (5), while a concave section (32) which receives the convex section (30) in the other separator (4) is provided.
