titleOfInvention | Quantum optical interference device and method for operating such a device |
abstract | A quantum optical interference device according to the invention comprises a photon pair source, an interferometer with an optical path length difference, a beam coupler, two detectors and a coincidence circuit. The first photon of a pair of photons is radiated into the first arm, the second photon into the second arm. The residence probability of each photon is split into two delayed probability wave packets. A number n or m can be assigned to each of the two delays thus created. The two photons interfere in the beam coupler and can either fall together in the same detector - anti-coincidence - or separately in different detectors - coincidence. The optical path length difference is chosen so that a logical XOR operation is performed with a significantly higher probability than 50%, which consists in that the coincidence signal is triggered if one of the numbers n or m is an even number and the other an odd number , and triggers the anti-coincidence signal if both numbers n and m are even or both odd numbers. |
