abstract A method for the detection of nucleic acid-oligomer hybridization events is described, which comprises the steps of providing a modified surface, the modification consisting in the attachment of at least one type of ligate oligonucleotide, providing a sample with ligand oligonucleotides, bringing a solution into contact with the modified surface, the solution containing at least one type of redox-active species, contacting the sample with the modified surface, detection of the reduction and / or oxidation of the redox-active species by a suitable electrochemical method with the aid of a measuring electrode, the distance from the modified surface of which is a maximum of 5 times as large as the radius of their electrochemically active surface, and includes comparison of the values obtained in the detection with reference values.
