abstract |
The invention relates to a photocatalytic element for splitting hydrogen-containing compounds as well as a method for producing such an element and uses for splitting such compounds. It is intended to propose a way to split hydrogen-containing compounds easily, flexibly and at relatively low temperatures. In the photocatalytic element according to the invention, a photocatalytically active binder-free thin layer made of a photoconductive material is formed on a carrier. The carrier has an open-pore structure or is likewise formed from such a structure. The thin layer formed on the carrier can be applied by means of plasma-assisted vacuum coating processes. The photocatalytic element can be arranged in a device together with at least one light source within a housing. This housing has at least one inlet for a medium in liquid or gaseous form, in which a hydrogen-containing compound is contained. There is also an outlet for the fission products, the at least one photocatalytic element being arranged between the inlet and outlet. |
