abstract The present invention describes a process for the preparation of ethyldimethylamine and triethylamine with the following steps: DOLLAR A (i) reacting a mixture of diethylamine and dimethylamine with ethylene in the presence of a catalyst from the group of the alkali metal dimethylamides, alkali metal diethylamides and alkali metal hydrides DOLLAR A (ii) the catalyst DOLLAR A (iii) separating the mixture obtained by distillation into triethylamine and ethyldimethylamine and optionally diethylamine and dimethylamine DOLLAR A (iv) optionally recycling the catalyst and the starting materials into the reaction. DOLLAR A The process according to the invention allows the coupling production of ethyldimethylamine and diethylamine in a simple process.
