abstract | Process for the production of foamable polystyrene by material recycling of foamed polystyrene waste, characterized by the following steps: (a) dissolving the foamed polystyrene wastes in a solvent selected from di-lower alkylene glycol di-lower alkyl ethers with lower alkyl (s) equal to straight or branched C 1 -C 12 alkyl (s), mono- or dicarboxylic acid di lower alkyl esters having a straight or branched carboxylic acid chain length of C 1 to C 12 , in which the term "lower alkyl" has the same meaning as described above for the glycol ethers, THF, mixtures of the abovementioned solvents and mixtures of these solvents with ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate and / or rapeseed oil methyl ester, (b) precipitating the polystyrene from the polystyrene solution with a low-boiling alkane which is also a blowing agent for foamed polystyrene; (c) optionally partially drying the precipitated polystyrene so that propellant incorporated into the polystyrene is not removed. |
