abstract |
A process for making 9,9-bis (3-phenyl-4- (2-hydroxyethoxy) phenyl) fluorene is provided. The method comprises the steps of: carrying out a condensation reaction with fluorenone and 2 - [(2-phenyl) phenoxy] ethanol in the presence of a catalyst and cocatalyst, the catalyst being alkylsulfonic acid and the cocatalyst being a mercapto-containing compound, whereby the formation of a by-product is effective is reduced so that the product has characteristics of low color saturation, high purity and high yield. |
