titleOfInvention Flame retardant, arrangement of a flame retardant and a carrier material and method for producing a flame retardant
abstract The invention relates to a flame retardant which can be applied as a coating or coating to a carrier material, in particular sprayable as a powder in dissolved form onto a surface of the carrier material, containing keratin, which consists essentially of polypeptides obtained from keratin materials. The keratin materials can be renewable raw materials such as bird feathers. The invention also relates to an arrangement of such a flame retardant and a carrier material which is formed from a wood material, wood fiber material, building material, building product, textile material or textiles. Finally, the invention relates to a method for producing an aforementioned flame retardant by means of the following steps: (a) grinding the keratin material to a particle size of approximately 200 μm to approximately 500 μm; (b) mixing the keratin material ground according to step (a) with water or an aqueous solution of sodium sulfite, sodium hydrogen sulfite, sodium sulfate, sodium hydroxide; (c) thermal hydrolysis of the mixture according to step (b) in an autoclave at temperatures between 150 ° C and 220 ° C; (d) cooling the hydrolyzate prepared according to step (c); (e) Neutralizing the hydrolyzate cooled according to step (d) with an acid and, if appropriate, separating off any remaining non-hydrolyzed solids by filtration.
