The optoelectronic semiconductor chip has a first semiconductor layer (100) of a first conductivity type, a second semiconductor layer (110) of a second conductivity type, a first contact element (115) which is electrically conductively connected to the first semiconductor layer (100), and a second contact element (117), which is electrically conductively connected to the second semiconductor layer (110). The first semiconductor layer (100) and the second semiconductor layer (110) are arranged one above the other to form a layer stack. The first semiconductor layer (100) is structured so that part of the second semiconductor layer (110) is exposed. The first contact element (115) is arranged above the first semiconductor layer (100) and the second contact element (117) is arranged above the first semiconductor layer (100). Parts of the first contact element (115) are arranged at the same vertical height as parts of the second contact element (117) within a region in which the second contact element (117) overlaps with the first semiconductor layer (100).
