abstract The invention relates to a method for forming an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on an anode of a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell, comprising the steps of: a) providing an anode for a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell; Dissolving at least one polyvinyl acetal in at least one aprotic nonpolar organic solvent; c) adding at least one lithium-containing base to the solution according to b), whereby substitution of the acidic protons of the at least one polyvinyl acetal by lithium ions occurs; Separating excess lithium-containing base / excess lithium-containing bases, preferably by means of decanting or filtering; e) applying the polymer solution obtained according to step d) to the anode, preferably by spraying the anode with the polymer solution or by immersing the anode in the polymer solution; and f) drying or drying the anode. The present invention also relates to an anode having such an SEI for a rechargeable lithium ion or lithium battery cell and a rechargeable lithium ion or lithium battery cell having such an anode.
