titleOfInvention Method for determining the total hardness of a water sample and analyzer
abstract A method for determining a total hardness of a water sample by means of an automatic analyzer, comprising: - Production of a reaction mixture in a mixing container of the analysis device that is fluidically connected to a sample template or a sampling point, the production of the reaction mixture at least the addition of a predetermined amount of an indicator reagent which forms a complex compound with the total hardness-influencing ingredients of the water sample to the water sample and includes adapting the pH value of the reaction mixture to a specified measuring range of the total hardness, wherein the analysis device has a reagent container which is fluidically connected to the mixing container and which comprises a buffer solution, the pH of which is adapted to the predetermined measuring range of the total hardness, and control electronics of the analysis device controlling at least one pump of the analysis device in order to produce the reaction mixture in the mixing container from the water sample, at least a predetermined amount of the buffer solution and a predetermined amount of the indicator reagent; - After the reaction mixture has been produced, radiation of measurement radiation of a predetermined first wavelength range into the reaction mixture and reception of the measurement radiation after passing through the reaction mixture by means of a radiation receiver which outputs a receiver signal that is dependent on an intensity of the measurement radiation received; and - Receiving and processing the receiver signal by means of the control electronics, the processing of the receiver signal including determining a measured value of the total hardness of the water sample from the receiver signal of the radiation receiver according to an algorithm adapted to the predetermined measuring range of the total hardness.
