abstract Electronic devices are disclosed that include hydrophobic or oil repellent coatings that regulate coolant flow therein or thereon. In at least one embodiment, an electric machine is provided that includes a stator core that defines a cavity, windings disposed within the cavity that include winding heads that protrude from the cavity, and one or more layers of an oil repellent coating that surrounds the windings superimposed and configured to regulate a coolant flow over the winding heads. One method may include applying one or more layers of an oil repellent coating to winding heads of a stator of an electrical machine such that the one or more layers regulate coolant flow over the windings. The one or more layers may define coolant flow paths that may direct coolant to areas of the electric machine that require additional cooling, such as hot spots or neutral spots.
