abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of SAPO-56 (AFX) using a lower alkylamine, preferably trimethylamine, and a 1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane derivative which preferably contains either 1,4- (1,4 Diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) butyl cations or 1,5- (1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) pentyl cations as structure-controlling agents (SDAs). A lower alkyl ammonium hydroxide such as tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) can be used to control the pH. The invention further relates to SAPO-56 which comprises a lower alkylamine, e.g. Trimethylamine, and a 1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane derivative, e.g. a compound comprising either 1,4- (1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) -butyl cations or 1,5- (1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) pentyl cations.
