abstract A honeycomb structure comprising: a honeycomb structural body (10) having an inlet end face (11) as one end face and an outlet end face (12) as the other end face, and a porous partition wall (1) defining a plurality of cells (2), said plurality of cells ( 2) extending from the inflow end face (11) to the outflow end face (12) and serving as a passageway for a fluid; and a convex part (15) protruding outward from a part of the periphery of the honeycomb structural body (10), wherein the convex part (15) is arranged so as to surround the periphery of the honeycomb structural body (10) like a ring continuously or intermittently, the convex part (15) has a conical shape at least at one end with a conical surface (15a), the convex part (15) has a peripheral covering layer (20) which forms at least the conical surface (15a), the convex part (15) has a maximum thickness H of 1 to 20 mm in cross-section orthogonal to the direction of extension of the cells, the convex part (15) has a rough-faced region (18) on the conical face (15a) comprising the peripheral cover layer (20), the rough-faced region (18) having a surface roughness of 5 to 70 µm, and the rough-faced region (18 ) occupies less than the entire conical surface (15a) of the convex part (15), the honeycomb structure has a rough-faced region angle θ of 108° or more as a whole, the rough-faced region angle θ being the largest angle formed between two straight lines drawn from the central axis of the honeycomb structure toward the outer periphery, that they traverse the roughened region (18) when the honeycomb structure is viewed parallel to the central axis of the honeycomb structure, and an inclination angle formed between the conical surface (15a) and the direction of extension of the cells (2) is formed, is 10 to 80 degrees in cross section parallel to the direction of extension of the cells (2).
