titleOfInvention Method of providing sustainable polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
abstract Method of providing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) comprising the steps of: a) providing electricity and a chloride solution in a chlor-alkali electrolysis cell and obtaining Cl 2 , NaOH and H 2 by electrolysis; b) providing electricity and water in an electrolytic cell and obtaining H 2 and O 2 ; c) either obtaining CO 2 from CO-oxidized syngas using the O 2 from step b) or by directly introducing CO 2 from a sustainable source or emission source or by syngas (a mixture of CO, CO 2 , H 2 and H 2 O) from renewable sources and then using H 2 obtained in step a) and / or step b) and / or step c) and the CO 2 or CO / CO 2 mixture obtained in step c) in a catalytic methanol conversion process and obtaining methanol; or providing methanol by a biomass direct gasification step with simultaneous feeding of part of the O 2 obtained in step b) and optionally simultaneous feeding of part of the NaOH obtained in step a), preferably in a high temperature Winkler (HTW) process or by use any renewable syngas source as a raw material for the production of methanol. d) using methanol obtained in step c) in a catalytic methanol dehydration resulting in ethylene and water; e) using ethylene obtained in step d) and Cl 2 obtained in step a) in the direct chlorination of ethylene dichloride (EDC); f) feeding the ethylene dichloride (EDC) into a cracking reactor to produce vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and HCl; g) optionally recycling the HCl to Cl 2 using an HCl electrolysis reactor and using Cl 2 in step f) or further reacting HCl with O 2 obtained from step b) and ethylene obtained in step b) to produce additional ethylene dichloride ( EDC) by oxychlorination for use in steps f) and h) polymerizing vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and obtaining polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
