abstract Device for detecting and characterizing organic molecules in a liquid sample volume in the micromixer and submicroliter range with a microfluidic chip (2) having at least one microfluidic channel (3) open at the top for flowing through the sample volume and with a covering the at least one microfluidic channel (3) , transparent plate (7) serving as measuring window, which is coated on the side facing the at least one microfluidic channel (3) with a metal island film, wherein the metal islands (8) are elliptical, and with a detection optics (14) directed towards the plate (7) ), which emits light onto the plate (7) and receives the reflected light rays, characterized in that for the detection and characterization of organic molecules by means of Raman and infrared spectroscopy, in particular by means of RR, SERS, SECARS and SEIRA, the plate (7) for visible light and infrared light is transparent, and the elliptical metal are aligned with their major axes parallel to each other so that the distance between the edges of two directly adjacent metal islands (8) along the direction of their major axes is smaller than the length of the major axis of the respective metal island (8).
