abstract | An electrophotographic photosensitive member comprising: a laminated body; anda hole transporting layer on the laminated body, wherein: the laminated body comprises: a substrate; an undercoat layer having a thickness of d1 (µm) on the substrate; anda charge-generating layer having a thickness of d2 (µm) on the undercoat layer; the hole-transporting layer has a thickness of 15 µm or less; the undercoat layer comprises a polymerized product of a composition comprising an electron-transporting material represented by the following formula (1), a crosslinking agent and a thermoplastic resin having a polymerizable functional group includes: in the formula (1): Z and Z each represent a group having an electron-transporting property; X represents a connecting group, and the connecting group represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group, is a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group or a group derived by substituting one of the methylene groups in a main chain of the substituted and unsubstituted alkylene group, the pure Sa represents oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, SO, NR, CO or a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group, wherein the pure represents hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; andat least one of Z, Z and X has a polymerizable functional group, and the polymerizable functional group is a hydroxyl group, a thiol group, an amino group, a carboxyl group or a methoxy group; the laminated body fulfills the following expressions (2) and (4): in which Vd1 represents a potential of a surface of the charge generating layer 1.0 seconds after charging the charge generating layer by corona charging and Vd2 represents a potential of the surface of the charge generating layer 0.80 seconds after the charging of the charge generating layer by means of corona charging; andτ fulfills the following expression (3): wherein in expression (3) τ represents the transit time (ms) determined based on a rate of time change of the potential of the surface of the charge generating layer after the surface of the charge generating layer which has a potential of Vd1 (V) is exposed to light, the light having an intensity set such that the potential of the surface of the charge generating layer decreases 20% with respect to Vd1 (V) 0.04 seconds after exposure. |
