A hybrid electric vehicle with a variable-speed transmission shifts in different operating modes according to individual wiring diagrams. For example, various circuit diagrams may be used for engine-off operation, engine-on-the-fly operation, and regenerative braking. When the vehicle changes from one mode to another, the new shift schedule may have scheduled a shift that the driver does not expect. To avoid irritating the driver, a control strategy prevents the shift until either the old strategy also schedules a shift or until a user event occurs. |
