abstract |
A method for friction stir welding of two pieces of material of very different melting temperature provides that the first piece of material (12) is overlapped by the second piece of material (14). The rotating pin (38) of the friction stir welding tool (10) simultaneously provides butt and lap welding by displacing the pin (38) along the face (22) and contacting it either not at all or minimally. The same also applies to the flat side (30) of the first piece of material (12), which is overlapped by the less stable piece of material (14). |
