abstract |
An exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine (2) comprises a discharge region (4) and a catalyst region (5). The discharge region (4) is provided in an exhaust passage (3) of the engine (2) and discharges electricity in the exhaust gas to generate a plasma. The catalyst region (5) is disposed on a downstream side of the discharge region (4) in a flow direction of the exhaust gas and stores and reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gas. The catalyst region (5) supports an adsorbent material (51) holding NOx due to the electric discharge through the discharge region (4) in a low temperature region where the NOx storage without the electric discharge through the discharge region (4) is impossible is stored until the temperature of the catalyst region (5) rises to a temperature above which the NOx reduction is possible. |
