A catalyst particle comprising a hollow multilayer non-noble metal-noble metal core / shell structure according to the general formula (1) H core / EM inner shell / ZS / EM outer shell (1) wherein - H core is the hollow core of the particle, EM inner shell is a noble metal forming the innermost layer of the shell adjacent to the hollow core, - EM outer shell is a precious metal that forms the outermost layer of the shell, ZS is an intermediate layer between EM inner shell and EM outer shell comprising a base metal / precious metal alloy, and wherein the atomic ratio of non-noble metal (NM) to noble metal (EM) in the non-precious metal / noble metal alloy in the intermediate layer decreases toward the outer shell and the inner EM cup , and wherein the multi-layered structure comprising EM inner shell , ZS and EM outer shell is discontinuous. |
