titleOfInvention | Solid electrolytic capacitor containing a plurality of firmly sintered anode leads |
abstract | A capacitor including a solid electrolytic capacitor element having a porous anode body and an anode terminal assembly is provided. At least one wire of the terminal assembly is electrically connected to the anode body for connection to an anode end portion. The terminal assembly includes first and second leads embedded in the anode body and extending longitudinally therefrom. The first and second wires are fused together (i.e., "firmly sintered" to each other) during sintering of the anode body. The compound may be metallurgical, covalent, electrostatic, etc. By intertwining the wires, the path length and resistance to current flow within the anode body are reduced, thus reducing the ESR. This is particularly useful with anode bodies formed from high specific charge powders which often shrink away from the wires after sintering. The fixedly sintered wires also result in a terminal assembly that is more robust and mechanically stable. |
