The invention relates to antimicrobial compositions which (i) at least one zinc compound selected from zinc salt and zinc oxide, (ii) at least one glycerol monoalkyl ether of the general formula RO-CH 2 -CHOH-CH 2 OH, wherein R is a branched or unbranched C 1 -C 24 alkyl group, wherein the alkyl group substituted with one or more hydroxy and / or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy group (s) and / or the alkyl chain by up to four oxygen atoms can be interrupted (iii) at least one antioxidant and possibly (iv) contain one or more alkanediols, wherein the weight ratio (w / w) of component (ii) to component (iii) is at least 10: 1. The compositions are used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products and already have a broad antimicrobial activity, in particular with respect to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, even at low active ingredient contents of only about 3% by weight. |
