titleOfInvention | A solid electrolytic capacitor containing a coating formed of a colloidal dispersion |
abstract | A solid electrolytic capacitor comprising an anode body, a dielectric covering the anode body, a solid electrolyte covering the dielectric, and a coating of colloidal particles covering the solid electrolyte is provided. The coating is formed from a colloidal dispersion of particles. The particles of the dispersion contain at least two different polymer components, i. a conductive polymer and a latex polymer. An advantage of such a coating is that, due to the relatively soft nature of the capacitor, the presence of the latex polymer can help to mechanically stabilize it during embedding. This helps to limit the peeling of the solid electrolyte and any other damage that might otherwise occur during the formation of the capacitor. Furthermore, the latex polymer can also increase the dispersibility of the particles in an aqueous medium, which is desirable in various applications. |
