abstract An absorption medium comprising water and at least one amine of the formula (I) which comprises R 1 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 3 and R 5 are independently alkyl radicals having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R 4 and R 6 independently of one another are hydrogen or alkyl radicals having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, where R 3 , R 4 together may be a bridging radical - (CH 2 ) n -, -CH 2 CH 2 OCH 2 CH 2 - or -CH 2 CH 2 NR 7 CH 2 CH 2 - be with n = 2 to 5 and R 7 = hydrogen or alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, causes absorption of CO 2 from a gas mixture by contacting the gas mixture with the absorption medium improved capacity for the absorption of CO 2 .
