abstract The invention relates to titanium dioxide pigment particles which are capable of highly reflecting infrared radiation as well as having pigmenting properties and a process for their preparation. The particles have a mean particle size of 0.4 to 1.0 microns and are doped with zinc and potassium, but not with aluminum. The particles have a squished particle shape with a preferred aspect ratio of 1.5: 1. The particles are preferably prepared by the known sulfate process for the production of titanium dioxide and after the calcination optional inorganic and / or organic aftertreatment. The titanium dioxide particles according to the invention are suitable for the production of heat-insulating paints, lacquers or plastics.
