titleOfInvention | Solid electrolytic capacitor for use in high voltage and high temperature applications |
abstract | A capacitor assembly for use in high voltage and high temperature environments is provided. In particular, the capacitor assembly includes a solid electrolytic capacitor element that includes an anode body, a dielectric covering the anode, and a solid electrolyte covering the dielectric. In order to help facilitate the use of the capacitor assembly in high voltage applications, it is generally desirable for the solid electrolyte to be formed from a dispersion of preformed conductive polymer particles. In this way, the electrolyte is substantially free of high-energy radicals can (. Eg Fe 2 + -, or Fe 3 + ions) which may lead to degradation of the dielectric, in particular at relatively high voltages (e.g., above about. 60 volts), stay. To further help protect the stability of the solid electrolyte at high temperatures, the capacitor element is enclosed and hermetically sealed within a housing in the presence of a gas atmosphere containing an inert gas. Presumably, the housing and the inert gas atmosphere may limit the amount of oxygen and moisture that passes to the conductive polymer of the capacitor. In this way, the solid electrolyte is less likely to participate in a reaction in high temperature environments, which increases the thermal stability of the capacitor assembly. Not only does the capacitor assembly of the present invention work well in both high voltage and high temperature environments, but the capacitor assembly of the present invention can also have high volumetric efficiency. |
