abstract The present invention relates to a continuous process for the multi-phase aldol condensation reaction to mixed α, β-unsaturated aldehydes by reacting a mixture of two aliphatic aldehydes having different carbon number of 2 to 5 carbon atoms in the molecule in an upright tubular reactor in cocurrent in the presence of an aqueous solution of basic reacting compound, wherein the aldehyde mixture is dispersed drop-wise in the aqueous phase and the aqueous solution of the basic reacting compound flows as a continuous phase under laminar conditions through the tubular reactor.
