abstract The invention relates to the use of an iron-platinum catalyst on a solid support for the selective hydrogenation of aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding aromatic amines. The aromatic nitro compounds used herein also contain reducible carbon-carbon, carbon-nitrogen or carbon-oxygen multiple bonds in addition to the nitro group (s) which are left intact during hydrogenation.
