abstract In a process for the continuous preparation of biomass, in particular fermentation residues, the biomass is crushed, the uncrushed biomass is set in rotation, the rotating biomass is ground, the biomass is subjected to water vapor during the grinding process and enriched in a controlled manner with urea. For carrying out the method, a device is provided with at least one mill, which has at least one rotor rotatably mounted on a stator with a tool holder. This has at least one set of drivers, which is arranged on an inner turning circle of the rotor. In addition, the tool holder and the stator together have at least one set of grinding tools, which is arranged on an outer turning circle of the rotor. The stator has steam outlet openings arranged in the area of the grinding tools.
