titleOfInvention Underrun protection for commercial vehicles
abstract The invention relates to an underrun protection, in particular front underrun protection for commercial vehicles, with a multi-part cross member, which consists of an elongate center piece (4.1), a right end piece (4.2) and a left end piece (4.3), wherein the end pieces (4.2, 4.3) the center piece (4.1) are connected. In order to achieve a high freedom of design with regard to a vehicle-specific optimization of the crash behavior of such underrun protection, wherein the underrun protection has the lowest possible weight and should be relatively inexpensive to produce, the invention proposes the respective end piece (4.2, 4.3) from at least two sheet metal shells (4.21 , 4.22, 4.31, 4.32), wherein the sheet metal shells of the respective end piece define a hollow body portion (4.25, 4.35), measured in the direction of travel average cross-sectional depth is at least 1.2 times the measured in the direction of travel cross-sectional depth of the center piece (4.1).
