abstract The invention relates to a silicone-based material and the use of the material. In order to create a new material which provides active and passive hygiene protection and which can be easily and uniformly applied to a variety of substrates, it is proposed in the invention that the material comprises at least 80% by weight of silicone elastomer or silicone rubber having a viscosity of less than 100,000 mPa ยท s and up to 3 wt .-% pyrithione salt. It has surprisingly been found in the context of the invention that can form a clear protective film with such a material on a variety of substrates, which is physiologically harmless and at the same time provides active and passive hygiene protection (antimicrobial and fungicidal action) with long-term effect.
